Here's what the Roman philosopher Epicurus had to say on the subject:
Faith in immortality was born of the greed of unsatisfied people who make unwise use of the time that nature has allotted us!. But the wise person finds a life span sufficient to complete the full circle of attainable pleasures, and when the time of death comes, leaves the table satisfied, freeing a place for other guests!. For the wise person one human life is sufficient, and a stupid person will not know what to do with eternity!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Many people worry about " life after death " because they are conditioned to by their belief systems !. The fear of death is the most common fear among most humans !. Certain belief systems posit that death isn't the end of existence , but , in order to enjoy the " afterlife " , one has to live a benevolent life !. So , the struggle is how to enjoy life without sacrificing one's " eternal salvation " !. This is the foundation of your question , i think !. My approach is to consider life an answer , rather than a question !.Www@QuestionHome@Com

There is a belief in an eternal life of the soul/spirit/essence to be encountered upon mortal death of the physical body!. Individual belief, individual fear, and individual hope are key players in this issue!. Does one worry about an event scheduled to occur in 1 month!? Or one year!? Or five years!? Possessing a human nature incurs a desire to plan, predict, and control the outcome of future events, basically for individual security and safety!. However, when a religious belief is combined with our basic human nature, fear may be heightened since humans are relatively competitive and know the law of nature is survival of the fittest!. Most of us are socio-culturally taught to be the best we can be within our environments, and when the environment is unknown, as with a spiritual realm we don't understand, it becomes of utmost importance that we plan for what happens upon death of our physical bodies because our brains are designed for planning, predicting, and controlling our environments!. There is no absolute truth found on earth other than the statement that there is no absolute truth!. Because of the nonpermanent, nonabsolute patterns involved in human existence, it is thought important by many persons to be concerned about what may occur once physical death is encountered!. The brain experiences self-induced pleasure from neurotransmitters and hormones when it is able to plan, predict, and control its environment!. Our brain does not want to die, so it convinces itself that it's true essence will never die!. Sadly, we may never discover whether eternal life or "life after death" is a fact or merely fiction!. Individual belief, individual fear, individual hope under influence of the individual brain!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

They are afraid to go blind for eternity!. A terrible consequence of Death!.
They remind me of restless confused souls agonising in uncertainty!. They claim exclusively the right to be deceived, and they are entitled to it!.

I would call it nothing else but an attempt to violate the sacred ground of Death!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

To you it might be an oxymoron!. But, to others, death is the spiritual extention of outside of our earthly bodies!. I can't begin to comprehend it, but I believe in it!.

I had a death experience!.!.!.!.!.I don't believe in near death because those of us who have experienced it have literally died!. Then brought back to life!.
I was in that white light where peace was way beyond understanding!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It is an oxymoron when you think of it literally!. The "life" in "life after death" refers to a spiritual or a non-corporeal state of being!. If you knew for certain that there is an afterlife, why wouldn't you worry about it!? You'd want to know if you'll be happy or worthy, no!?Www@QuestionHome@Com
