Simply because they *believe* it to be true!. Only faith in one's knowledge can sustain it!. Open-mindedness helps too, inasmuch that it will keep people from adjusting their worldview(s) to an extreme stance-when they are learning and memorizing new things-that is!.

Of course, some are more accurate than others, but everyone has their own version of the truth!. The truth is there is no absolute or infallible truth!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Consciousness!. It is the capacity to know that we know!. Awareness is a function of consciousness which is always aware!. If there is awareness consciousness is present, hence existence can be known of self awareness!.

Consciousness is the subject of life rarely considered in the formula to resolving age old questions!. Luckily, there is a community of scientist and researchers dedicated to study of consciousness!. What has been found will prove to totally alter our perception and broaden our awareness also opening new possibilities!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

That is the core of the entire branch of philosophy called epistemology!. And on the first day of the first course in that discipline, you learn two things that just make you want to give up and go home!. One is that we can't ever prove we're not dreaming, thus anything we're sure of now may be part of a dream and not actually true!. The second is that we could be brains in a vat of nutrient, (BIV), being fed input like in that movie the Matrix - and if so, we can never realize it!. Therefore we can't be sure we're NOT brains in a vat!.
