If you think you're thinking you really are thinking, even if you're thinking in a computer simulation!. Something must exist to do the thinking, so you exist!.

A lot of people have asked themselves if they really exist, and coming up with a bona fide answer is next to impossible!. René Descartes (1596-1650), a famous French philosopher, was one such person!. During a meditation one day, a thought struck him as especially disturbing: what if the world and everything we perceive is merely projected by an evil demon trying to deceive us!? He was never able to completely disprove this notion, but he was, however, able to take solace in the fact that everything he thinks is at least real to him, leading him to utter his much quipped and world-renowned mantra: cogito ergo sum (I think, therefore I am)!. He eventually came to the conclusion that God could never allow such a deceptive abomination, like the one he thought of in his mediation, to exist, and became addicted to the opium of the masses (religion) and was thus declared dead to philosophy forever!. Believing that nothing is real except for what is in your mind is called solipsism!. Believing that material objects only exist because the idea of them exists is called idealism!. Believing that an omnipotent man with a white beard made everything real because he was really bored and lonely several thousand years ago and then, eventually, got the holy spirit to inseminate some chick in Israel with his seed so the aforementioned chick's son could unlock the gates of heaven for everyone because God got sick and tired of just watching everybody and wanted to actually have some company up there in heaven is called Christianity!.

Yes I do wonder if I actually exist!. Getting sucked into the existential vacuum that this curiosity can sometimes manifest is no fun, though, and the answer to your question is impossible to find out (unless whatever weird entity in charge of this hypothetical "computer simulation" wakes you up 'cause he/she/it gets bored or something)!. Questions that can't be scientifically answered are called speculations, and the study of these questions is called philosophy!.

If you ever do get sucked into an existential vacuum, take comfort in MY philosophy: trying to divide reality by meaning is like trying to divide a number by 0, because there is no meaning!. This means that It doesn't matter whether this "reality" is just a computer simulation, or an illusion created by some demon because our existence is undefined either way!. So enjoy what you can while you can, and help other people to achieve that end as well, before they end and before you end!.

Sorry to answer a question with another one!!. But it depends on what level of existence you're referring to, I suspect that we actually inhabit more than just the physical realms!. So on the un-realized level or stream in the spiritual sense yep we or rather I sure do!!?Www@QuestionHome@Com
