We know it's both: We are born one way and we grow and change with time!. The brain changes throughout our entire life and every seven years we are suppose to have a real overhaul on our personalities and what we believe!. We learn from friends and family and we take some of them with us but if we chose to spend time with new people and we perform new jobs and hobbies our personalities change!. As much as you are who your parents were and what you eat you are who you spend time with and what job you do!.

for example: spending time with people workin in massage opens my life up to so many new possibilities and a different way of thinking then spending time with people workin in and on construction crews!. Both jobs I work with my hands but the reason and ways and the people around have changed my personality in different ways for better or for worse!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You can't inherit a personality trait!. It is not observed that if one of your parents has a personality characteristic that you are certain to have it!.!.!. even so little certainty as normal genetic distribution provides!.

What you CAN inherit is a TENDANCY to have a personality trait!. Children of alcholics are prone to alcoholism themselves!. They aren't certain to become one!.!.!. just a greater tendancy!. So, too, with many other personality traits!.

A tendancy can be overridden or simply never develop in the right environment!. And that's the primary difference!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Many are inherited and many are learned!. I have been involved in many successful adoption searches and I have seen some very remarkable examples of personality traits common in two people who never knew each other until we located birth-parents and relinquished children!. Many cases served me in strengthening my faith in God!. I have seen some remarkable instances where only God could have been the only explanation!. If personality traits were inherited, they would be identical in offspring of the same parents!. This is not seen to be so!. Inherited they are ,though - from our own previous lives!. No other explanation makes sense!. Theists are, of course, spared the searching by simply believing in the special creation of every individual!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

A little bit of both!. My dad is an intellect and my mom is a total class act!. I have my dads manners and ability to speak articulately, and from my mom I have my nice positive ways, always making jokes or making people smile!. I learned more things as I grew older, adding on to my personality traits!. So i'd say both!. ;)Www@QuestionHome@Com

A combination of both, actually!. Real-life example!. I recently met a half-sister that I never knew I had and we're like twins separated at birth, despite the fact that she's two years younger than me!. We look alike, we act alike, we think alike, our mannerisms are alike, we're both perverts, etc!. etc!. etc!. There's no other explanation than a genetic one!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Both!. There have been experiments aimed at proving both sides, and both sides have plenty of evidence to support such hypotheses!. Generally while my dad and I share similar beliefs, the differences emerge in the details!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
