I surf all the time!. I'm rarely satisfied with one web site because I don't trying to learn all about one philosopher before moving on to the next!. I learn what philosphers think about "topics," more often lately the topics in this forum!.

Answering these questions keep my mind turning all the time because I must always be learning who said what about what!. And my memory is just good enough that I can remember that "A" said "something" about "that topic!." So I check my facts before I answer!.

Learning topically is much more fun and actually more educational than ploughing through philosopher after philospher!. So I pick a topic, Google it, read several of the links, maybe click on a link on a link, and I keep going until I have the answer I was searching for!. In the meantime, I've learned what more than one philosopher said on the topic!.

I discovered this method when I discovered the best anthology of philosophy in the world, the Syntopicon, also called the Great Ideas!.
http://www!.thegreatideas!.org/index!.html
It is also available in its original form, as Volumes II and III of the Great Books of the Western World, available in every adult library!.

But if you prefer doing it online, just Google!. You will discover more than you can read in a lifetime!. For example I just Googled "animal philosophy" and found many things I wasn't expecting!. Any topic and the word "philosophy" on Google will get you something!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

For Descartes and Plato you can get a lot of their work from Project Gutenberg!.
Descartes http://www!.gutenberg!.org/browse/authors/!.!.!.
Plato http://www!.gutenberg!.org/browse/authors/!.!.!.
Plato's works are also your best bet if you want to find out about Socrates!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

This seems to be the best way to search out major philosophers and their ideas:

http://dir!.yahoo!.com/Arts/Humanities/Phi!.!.!.

You can also try Wikipedia, but be aware that that source can be flawed and does possess mistakes!. Still, it ain't bad!.

Good luck!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
