I'm sure, throughout your childhood, people called you "young man", using a stern tone of voice, and generally trying to make you act more mature!. Maybe a scout master or gym would routinely refer to a group of boys as men, "Saying, okay, men, whenever you get the ball, center it!." I'm 45, and when I'm with my peers, I often get referred to as a boy!. My sister says to me and my brother in law, "If we're going to make the movie in time, you boys have got to stop tinkering with that damn car!" In some contexts people say it to me to be demeaning, in others to be kind!. As another answerer already pointed out, you are always going to be a boy to your parents, even though they know you are an adult!. It's all context!. Boy says to girl, "I love you, baby!." Girls says to boy, "Quit acting like a baby!."Www@QuestionHome@Com That's a problem with the boundaries of language!. When you have a stack of hay and you remove one piece, repeatedly, when does it become less than a stack of hay!? If you're asking when people will call a particular person a man, it's really going to depend on the person and the situation or relationship!. The person's military experience or maturity may help, but it won't be apparent to all people!.!. Boy and man can be used synonymously with male, so I would not take it personally!. Some of them take a little longer!. Somewhere between 35 and 40!. An 18-year-old is still a boy in spite of what the law says!. The term "boy" is NOT a put-down!. Boys rock!!
