It is what makes us human because it gives us the ability to invent, to create, and to have basic common sense, all things which animals do not have although there are a few nuts who believe animals "have feelings too!." Sure they have instinctal feelings, such as pain, or enjoyment; but they don't have non-instinctive abilities, such as creating, building, and inventing!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Imagination IS what makes the world go 'round!.

Someone Imagined a lightbulb, Cars and even the computer you ask your question with!.

While it doesn't make us human to be able to imagine, it helps that we, as humans, have the means to make the imagination work for us!.

Picture what the world would be like without someone to imagine the things everybody takes for granted!. Picture without imagination, you would be going to the nearest river to wash, or using a hole in the ground as a restroom!.

We humans have the ability of hypothetical thinking, which is the source of logic!. Opinion is when that thinking is then processed in the mind to decide whether you like the idea or not!. Imagination is the ability to create non-tangible situations through memory and thought!. With Hypothetical thinking, opinion, and imagination, we have the ability to create evaluated judgment that makes us aware that we exist!. and that we exist in a world, much larger that us!. Standing at the door of reality, we can observe beauty!.
We can deal with emotion!.
Imagination opens the door and allows us to walk through the door of reality---of THIS reality---and see at least a little bit of what else might exist!.
Imagination also allows us to take this reality and play with it, stretching it, folding it---whatever---until we have something different!. Maybe not super different, just a little tweaked here and there---but different!.
Animals aren't able to consciously choose to walk through the door of imagination!. We are able to consciously choose to do so!.
