There is a similarity between our "progression" and the progression of cancer: the individual cancer cells are progressing to a point, when they are indestructible, and by reaching this point of perfection, they destroy the host, and thus, themselves!. I believe that humanity has arrived at a crucial point in its existence where every decision we make hereafter pushes us farther and farther into annihilation!.
