IMHO If you have to stop and consider if what you're about to say (joke or otherwise) "is" racist, then generally, you shouldn't say it!. Again, IMO, I reckon a lot of times you have to factor in why it's funny and to whom you are sharing the joke with!. I have friends from many races and creeds and sometimes the jokes we crack, to (and about) each other, are downright "nasty"!. I wouldn't dream of telling these jokes to strangers or in a stranger's company!. That "would" be bordering on racism and even though no harm was intended, offense may still have been caused!.!.!. So a joke like,"What is the difference between an italian woman and a catfish!?!.!.!. One has whiskers and smells bad and the other is a fish!" is not racist, it is just a stereotype!. By condoning this type of communication, you are contributing to the negative feelings of others for those who are different from the joke teller!. Well there are times when they make you so mad that you complain about it to a friend!. We all do it from time to time, even though we shouldn't!. So, you are telling your friend how Johnny broke your vase playing ball in the living room and she starts saying how he was mean to her son while was playing with him!. She told Johnny that it was all his fault!. As she's telling you this your tolerance starts to get a little on the thin side!. Pretty soon you want to start telling her just what she can do with her!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!. It is one thing for you to complain about your son!. But the minute someone else starts chiming in, well now, you are protecting him like he can do no wrong! This is the way I see it!. It don't matter if it's family, race, whatever!.
