Aldous Huxley seemed to indicate there are 2 types of belief:

--The continuous varibles do exist since people do involve artful stories of God and his purposes, Please note, the Bibles comment on such:

(2 Peter 1:16) “16?No, it was not by following artfully contrived false stories that we acquainted YOU with the power and presence of our Lord Jesus Christ, but it was by having become eyewitnesses of his magnificence!.”

(Colossians 2:8) “8?Look out: perhaps there may be someone who will carry YOU off as his prey through the philosophy and empty deception according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary things of the world and not according to Christ!.?!.?!.”

--SUCH FALSE TRADITIONS can exist in religion or philosophies of the world, that is why the Bible needs to be adhered to as it claims to have the truth about true & false belief!

For me, "belief" could be considered a sort of working assumption!. I "believe" the universe exists!. Under this definition, there is only belief or lack of belief!. However, with any assumption, you can associate a "sureness" property which is continuously variable!. I'm very sure that my belief in the universe is justified, thus I'm a "strong believer" in the universe!.

Though, I think it depends on how logical a person is!. If someone hasn't really considered what belief entails for themselves, their view of what belief is might be internally inconsistant and make it impossible to make logical deductions about what they mean when they make belief related statements!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

belief in the religious sense, as I understand it, is acknowledging that something (a conclusion, historicity, veracity, statement etc) is true without checking the evidence for it!.

If by belief, you mean belief systems, then there are of course many even though they cross one another at some point!. For instance most if not all religious belief systems believe that there is a creator, the first cause or that there is life after death etc!.

I wouldn't put it that way "belief is one thing"!. I'd simply say that there are different types of belief systems!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

a) "I believe that it will rain tomorrow!."
b) "I believe that gay marriage is unethical!."
