Question: Is John Lennon a Prophet!?
I have to do a piece of work on prophets, and I can choose to study anyone I want, as long as I say why I think they're a prophet!.

My teacher has given me examples of people I could do, including David Attenborough, Martin Luther King, Peter Garret, Sigmund Freud, The Wright Brothers, Jesus, Muhammad, Jeremiah, Amos, etc!.
I want to do John Lennon, but I can't think of any good reasons why he's a prophet!.
If a prophet is either:

1!. Someone who conveys the message of God!.

or

2!. Someone who makes prophecies or foretells/influences the future,

Then is John Lennon a prophet!? Why!? If not, could you help me think of someone better!?

(Keep in mind that the 2 rules above are ones that my teacher gave me, and he says that all his example names [also above] are are people who one or both of these rules apply to!.)Www@QuestionHome@Com

You're confusing influence over foretelling!.

As far as I can tell, any view Lennon had of the future did not come true!. The world is not one in peace!. People still work crummy jobs 40 hours a week, and very few people are onboard the yellow submarine!.

He is influential just like Aristotle and Plato were influential on the philosophy world!. Were either of these ancient philosophers prophets!? No, their methods were heard and replicated and reapplied, just like the music industry has done today!.

::EDIT:: your teacher's definition is terrible!. By that defintion, George W!. Bush is a prophet, Hitler was a Prophet, and Jeffery Dahmer was a Prophet!. You can also argue that Bill Gates was a prophet, Bill O'Reily or even Senator McCarthy was one as well!. Having an impact on the world does not make you a prophet, and to say so cheapens the use of the word!.

People who start trends, affect the business world, affect the pollitcal world do NOT deserve to bare that title!. If I were you, I would challenge your teacher by the vagueness of the definition!. also, if you want to REALLY poke a hole in your teacher's logic, switch your topic over to Hitler, read "Mein Kampf" and compare it to his rise to power and his influence on Toletalitarian states, and the public opinion of Jews and minorities!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

John Lennon definitely influenced future generations!. Does that count!?

EDIT: By your teacher's logic, Lennon is a prophet!. He was 1/4 of a group that changed the history of music, fashion and the way people thought!.

EDIT: I agree with Rob W!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Bob Dylan is right there as well!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
