the noise that no sound makes!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It is a confusing question because certain philosophers want you to think the answer hinges on the definition of "sound" or "noice!." Let's reword it:
"If a tree falls in the forest, does it follow the laws of existence, or the laws of consciousness!?"

If you answer the first, you believe in the Primacy of Existence!. That means, "To command nature, nature must first be obeyed!." That is an explicit acceptance that nature exists irrespective of a consciousness to witness it!. It means, "Existence exists!."

If you believe it does not make a sound or noice, then the tree does not exist unless a consciousness is conscious of it!. That is the Fallacy of the Primacy of Existence!.

This question has nothing to do with definitions of "sound" or "noise!."Www@QuestionHome@Com

Your question is not confusing at all!. It's actually one of the famous or common philosophical questions, and how you answer it says something or points to what philosophical system or branch or world-view your views fall into!.

Basically, what this question is asking is: does something like sound exist in itself, regardless of whether someone hears it, or does sound refer to that which is heard, like, actually, by a person!?

Science usually (some will argue with me) answers that it exists by itself!. However, some philosophers, usually epistemologists and phenomenologists will ask the scientists a very important question: How do you know!? In other words, think about it, how would anybody, you yourself or even a scientist, verify or produce evidence that a sound occurs even if nobody is around to hear it!? Wouldn't you have to be around to verify or prove that it happened!?

So, in a sense, people generally talk about things as if they exist when there is nobody around to perceive the things, and people think you're nuts if you say otherwise!. But, it is really not a matter of being nuts!.!.!.!.it's a matter of how anybody could ever possibly prove the existence of something happening, such as sound, without someone being there to say that it happened!. Technically, somebody would have to be there to prove it!. That is why philosophers say that experiences are primary - that they must form the basis on which we can start to talk about our world!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No!. Because sound needs three things, if one is missing, the sound won't happen:
A vibration- A quivering movement!.
A medium- Something that transports the vibrations!.
A receiver- Something to "pick up" the vibrations, because it wouldn't be sound, just!.!.!. vibrations!.
In this case, a living thing would be a receiver, and since there is a vibration and medium, but no receiver, then there is no sound!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

it makes vibrations regardless of the organism within proximity!.
if it rains, will it create ripples in a lake if no one is there to see it!?
everything is vibrating and collisions create ripples of vibration that spread out in all directions from that point!.
we have developed sensory organs that can detect these different vibrations!.
sound is one of the vibrations we can detect but can only detect a small portion of the spectrum of these vibration!.
light is another vibration we can only detect a small portion of!.

So, in reality, if no one is there, no one will detect the sound vibration with a human ear but every other living thing with sensory organs will!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
