Question: In the Book of Revelation, "God" says, “I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last"!?
Doesnt that simply nullify the concept of "God" being eternal, also saying that "God" is the first and last; doesnt that indicate other (Gods) in between!.
Please note that the question is in the philosophy section and not religion section because I am approaching the question from this angleWww@QuestionHome@Com

Logically, you are quite correct!. But since when has Theology had even a nodding acquaintance with logic!?

And you were wise to put your question here!. The Xtians around here would be on you like a pack of rabid dogs!.

you're misapplying the phrase!. The meaning behind that quote is that there was nothing before God and there is nothing after God!. No where in the bible is there ever a reference to a legitimate second God!.

Think time wise: We believe there was a big bang and the earth cooled down and eventually became the planet we have today!. This phrase states that this came after the existence of God!. When the universe ends, God will still be there according to this phrase!.

Its a bit tricky to explain with our language which is built on our limited perception of time and our limited knowledge of what something eternal truly is!.

::Edit::
The 10 commandments talk about false Gods, and no where does the bible give any claim to power to these Gods!. If you are going to argue this further, please site sources, thank you!.

also, I resent your comment deeply doug!. No one here has attacked you or your beliefs!. Please refrain from your abrasive comments and keep things civilWww@QuestionHome@Com

doesn't he say “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end" because alpha and omega are the begining and end of the greek alphabet meaning he's the beginning and end of everything
maybe he begun everything and everything can end with him
he could also be saying he's the only godWww@QuestionHome@Com

Many times in the Bible there are references to other gods!. Astarte, Baal are probably mentioned the most!. But many others are mentioned as "Pagan" gods or "Heathen" gods!.
And the quote is NOT from God but from his son, Jesus!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I agree, the 10 commandments also state "I am your lord god, there shall be no other gods before me!." This too, I believe states there are more than one and this god is the one for the hebrews!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Hmmm, one or more than one !? Didn,t he also say somewhere that he was a jealous god!?Question here being jealous of whom or whatWww@QuestionHome@Com

Yes!.!.!.!.Love!.!.!.(the most powerful force of all)!.!.!.!.!.is in the middle(!.!.!.of it All)!.!.!.!.!.you are right!.!.!.!.(In-BetwEEn) the First and the Last!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I agree with Rob!. The author's intention was to state that there was nothing before and nothing after him!. He did not intend to mean: first and last, but not middle!.

However, the biblical writers did not have much of an understanding of eternal or infinity, or of the way science functioned as a whole!. There are constant mistakes there, such as when Joshua commanded the Sun to stand still in the sky!. The thinking at the time considered the sun to rotate around the earth, or at least that it came up on one side and went down on the other!. They had no idea the earth was what was actually moving!.

But, in regards to time!. Genesis starts out, "In the beginning" god created the earth!. John 1:1 states "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God!." (a later verse states that the word became flesh, aka Jesus)!.
