Question: Is the brain a tool for the mind, not its creator!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
A tool is a cultural artifact!. I would not call the brain a tool, except when, for example, someone tries to hook you up to a machine to monitor the effects of the senses, in the cases of say biofeedback or sleep studies!. But if, as seems the case the brain has leverage over the mind, just as the feeling that the mind is in control, then some kind of equilibrium or balance has to be established, to function in daily living,

But your question throws a curve--"its creator!?" Meaning what!? Meaning God, nature, intelligence, egg and sperm, what!? I mean, the word creator, you didn't capitalize!.

Please go on!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You are correct if you believe in the reification of "mind!."
If, rather, you believe in the Primacy of Existence, then the answer is No, the brain created the mind, but not by any purpose of the cosmos except for the naturalistic view that the univere has no inherent purpose!. The mind's "creation" was purely accidental!.

It's what we did with it after we had it that was not accidental and not without purpose!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The spiritual belief is that brain is the tool that the mind uses!.!.!.!.!.!.!. the scientific belief is that the mind is merely created by the brain through the influence of its stored experiences which interacts with every new experience!. The reality is that both are just beliefs and the truth in this respect is not known for certain as yet!. However, I personally would like to believe that I control my mind and thereby use my brain for my various purposes!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Consider that the brain is the computer and the mind is the software, then neither is the creator for they work together to solve life's little problems, here and there, now and then!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Personally I believe it is only what you call a "Tool!."Www@QuestionHome@Com
