a mistake would be an accident, usually when someone makes a mistake they had good intentions!.

a sin would be when you knew what you were going to do was bad but you did anyway with not-so-good intentions!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes, there is a difference!.Yes , we should distinguish between the two!.

A mistake is a misunderstanding of a thing's meaning,or a thing incorrectly done or thought through ignorance or inadvertence!.

A sin is an offence against God as well as a fault against reason, truth, and right conscience!. Sin is a deliberate thought, word, deed, or omission contrary the the eternal law of God!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

We all make Mistakes!.!.!.!.and usually we are aware of having made the error!. Very often we conclude for ourselves that a mistake has been made on our part and we either feel bad about it, or immediately take corrective action!.
(sometimes mistakes can also be called "accidents")

Sin seems to be something that is defined by others as the things/thoughts/actions!.!.!.!.that we "should" or "should not" do!.
Sin also frequently involves corrective action or punishment that is doled out by a something or someone beyond, or outside of ourselves!. (usually a God or Religion or Parent or someone in a position of perceived power)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Sin is an inherent human characteristic!. Here are some typical sins:
* killing someone
* stealing
* cheating on your husband or wife
* sex before marriage
* thinking about killing someone
* thinking about stealing
* thinking about sex with someone who you are not married to
* getting angry or being hateful
* etc!.!.!. etc!.!.!. etc!.!.!.

Making a mistake is actually doing something or making a decision that turns out to be one you wish you hadn't done (usually because it was the wrong thing to do, but also possibly because the result was different to what you expected)!. Here are some examples of mistakes:
* killing someone by accident when you didn't mean to
* killing someone and meaning to, but leaving the weapon behind and getting caught
* stealing something and getting home only to find it wasn't what you meant to steal
* getting drunk and waking up next to someone you wish you hadn't woken up next to
* telling your wife she doesn't look good in that dress
* dropping a hammer on your foot
* spelling something wrong
* voting Bush for president

There's some overlap between the two!.!.!. but they're really quite different!. One big thing that distinguishes them - everyone sins, but only good people regret it!.!.!. whereas both good and bad people regret mistakes!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Mistakes are things people do that turn out to have been wrong decisions!. A Sin is something you do that makes people (or God if you will) angry with you and calls for punishment!. If a mistake is punished by the bad result of the mistake, then mistakes and sins are the same thing!.

But the punishment for a mistake does not necessarily fit the crime!. You forget to set the parking brake on your car and as a result it rolls over you, kills you, and crashes onto the rocks below!. The wages of forgetfulness is death!? Sounds kind of harsh!. Perhaps God just really hates people that are forgetful!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Greek word for sin means 'missing the mark' and it is from that meaning that the Bible was translated!.

Missing the mark means not getting it right but that doesn't mean that it is wrong either, just not right, thus implying that there are degrees of right!.

A mistake, if made once, can be a learning experience but if repeated would be stupid!. I would say that a sin could be considered mistake but not every mistake is a sin if it teaches us something!.

The two words aren't the same but definitely cross each other at some point before continuing on their separate ways!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Mistake: 1!.) An error or fault resulting from defective judgment, deficient knowledge, or carelessness!.
2!.) A misconception or misunderstanding!.

Sin: Deliberate disobedience to the known will of God!.

A sin is when you KNOW that you are going against God's will, yet continue with the sinful act!. A mistake can be anything from spelling a word wrong, to, I don't know, putting diesel fuel in an unleaded car!.

However!.!.!. Acts 17:30 says: "And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent"
Meaning that you are not held accountable for what you TRULY did not know was wrong, but when you do find out that it is wrong, repent!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

a mistake is something that you admit was stupid & wrong and you wish you had never done!.

a sin is something bad that you have done

a mistake can also be a sin e!.g killing someone, but the word can be used for any mistake e!.g dropping out of school early, or quitting a job!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

A mistake is something wrong that you've done without having the knowledge beforehand or you are not aware of what you are doing will end up being a mistake!. A sin is something that you know it's wrong and still commit!. The concepts are confusing!. Hope it helps!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
