No!. Generalizations is an efficient way to manage information!. It is not dangerous if it is true!.

However, untrue generalizations are dangerous!.
Right after Sept!. 11, some idiot thought that all muslims are terrorist and they wear turban!. A Sikh was stab because he is wearing a turban!. Even though a Christian friend, who is with him told the attacker that a Sikh is not a muslim!. The attacker ignore him!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Dangerous, no!.

The human brain appears, in my opinion, to be wired to operate in generalities first, with exceptions layered on!. Life is a series of interactions based on generalities!. This allows the mind to deal with nearly automatic responses to the events around us without us having to spend seconds/minutes/hours of research and decision with every decision (no matter how small) that gets made during the course of our day!. Without generalities, people would be frozen in indecision - I know people who suffer from this type of thing at times!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Generally, no!. Generalisations are compression algorithms which allow our puny brains to cope with the world around us!. Can you imagine the amount of thinking required if we treated every apple as an entirely different thing from every other apple, every fruit as unrelated to other fruit, every plant as a unique being with no relation to other plants!?

People argue over how to categorise the world endlessly, but it's still much better than not categorising!. The only caveats required are (a) to take categorisations with a pinch of salt; and (b) don't confuse forming negative opinions of a large group with the (general) forming of large groups!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Generally speaking,it's dangerous!.It stems from a survival technique i think right, it makes sense to generalize that yellow and black striped things are dangerous after you get stung by a bee but what if you had a real nice peice of candy that was striped yellow and black!?Yummy right!?yes, so you see my point!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Possibly as all judgment may be dangerous by clouding ones mind and stopping one from seeing what is as it is!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No!. Generalizations are very applicable when related to a proper set of conditions!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Thats a very open question!. Short answer; no because there are exceptions to every rule!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Its dangerous if you make it dangerous!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Wouldn't that be generalising!?!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

I don't know!. It would be a generalization to say otherwise!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
