Rene Descartes thought that the mind was spiritual and the body was matter!. He thought they "connected" in the pineal gland!. Today we call that Cartesian Dualism and it is rejected by most philosophers!. Today we recognize that the mind is an extension of the body and is just as much matter as the rest of the body is!. Materialism wins!.

But, yes, there are aspects of consciousness that are illusions as the individual components of our brain function together in a virtually seamless manner creating the illusion we call our selves or our consciousness!.

This is a very active area in philosophy, especially phenomenology working together with cognitive sciences and neurosciences!.

Mind does not create matter and matter didn't evolve the mind!. Evolution is a description of how changes occur in species of animals and not the matter that makes up animals!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I would say the former, in the sense of a universal mind!. It seems too far fetched to believe that mind, or life, could spontaneously come from inert matter!. It's one of those "chicken or the egg" type questions that is probably impossible to prove!. Another way to look at it is that everything really happens simultaneously, as time is only a human concept!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

both the mind moved the hand to make the matter and matter gave the mind images to copy and use as tools for which thoughts were breed from!. an illusion maybe but then if thought were and illusion so would be reality and if reality is an illusion do we really just wake up when we die!? I'm gonna say that with thought comes understanding and understanding matter you can then evolve matter making and shaping it in an image of your own choice!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

"Define self-awareness and tell me what it is about it that requires something more than a material explanation!. I do not accept the burden of explaining all phenomena, real or imagined!. If you think more than matter is required for this thing you call self-awareness, which you have not defined, then you have the burden of showing why!."

Whatever you believe requires a domain of ultimate truth!.

Even the statement that "Truth is relative" is actually an absolute statement!.!.!.truth is ALWAYS relative!. (It's actually a contradiction)

You can attribute everything you perceive to yourself!.!.!.but you will end up with no friends and probably die in an assylum!.

In short: philosophy is a bottomless pit!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

mind is a product of matter!. The brain is matter!. Without a brain there is no mind!. If there were no minds in the universe, guess what, there would still be a poopload of matter with nobody to think about it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Mind is part of life manifestation!.
Its not matter exactly, is just something intangible that we (and other living beens) own!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

THERE ARE SO MANY IDEAS UPON THAT!!!! JUST TAKE A PHILOSOPHY CLASS!.!.!.!.Sorry for caps!.

Though I think it is matter, based on evolution untill we gain a conciousness, then our goals are our illusions to come true!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Mind is a biological product, therefore born of matter!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Mind is not a function of matter, matter is a function of mind!.

I think it is the latter, but really good for discussion on debating this issue!Www@QuestionHome@Com
