Question: Free will or determinism!?
Which one do you believe in!? Or do you believe in both!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Determination is pretty much stopped by quantum uncertainty!.

Those familiar with my answers will know that I ascribe to a model of the universe based on free will, but with our freedom being influenced by the desires of others that share our universe!.

E!.g!. we might choose to diet but our stomach may incline us to get hungry, making dieting harder!. Likewise our taste buds might want to live on chocolate, but media and peer pressure incline us to diet!.

It is difficult to believe in both free will and predestination but the two may not be incompatible!. It is difficult to believe in anything since any set of beliefs will either have contradictions or holes!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It is true that man has willpower, but this willpower is not completely free!. It can be applied to the physical world to convert or guide it in the desired direction!. Therefore, for willpower to operate effectively, it is necessary to take the physical laws governing the world into consideration!. So, I simply reject both freewill and determinism, and just assert that there is willpower in the sense I have described!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Determinism is dead, quantum mechanics killed it!.
Things are based only upon a probability!.
Oh and in case it comes up again I am talking about the wave-function not the uncertainty principle!.
Even if you believe in the many worlds interpretation then freewill is still the case because the initial state of the universe is potentially an infinite amount of different conditions that can arise!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Determinism is the only logical possibility in a causal universe!. Since the human brain is too feeble to grasp causality in it's full complexity, we use the concept of free will as a mental shortcut to explain peoples' actions, much as religious people use God to explain natural phenomenon that they don't understand!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

both and neither!.

all the world must follow the laws of physics, action and reaction!. this includes your mind and so your actions!. but every mind is different by virtue of genetics and the fact that two people can't occupy the same space at the same time, so they must have different experiences!.

you are free to will as much as you want!. but you are are determined by the laws of physics, and so that which you will must be as well!. so if the world could rewind perfectly and be played again all would turn out exactly the same, physics is predictable that way, but the future has not yet happened!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Free will true or not, to be a self-aware, individuated individual, committed positively to service to others, it is most important to act as if there is free will!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Determinism!. Thoughts are physical events involving the movement of particles, there's no reason to assume that they are separated from the chain of cause and effect which governs all other particles!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

both!. like driving a bumper car!. you can go bump any way you like, but just in a determined arena!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

:) :) ;)

The answer is free will!.

Whether it is the best for this question is determinism!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

free will determines everything!. the outcome of the future can change with free will not to sound cheesy or anything :]Www@QuestionHome@Com

Free will because it determines the results!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Deterministic Chaos!. To be honest, I don't know!. I do know, however, that thinking about it too much makes my head hurt!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Ideally they should go hand in hand, and then real good things can happen!Www@QuestionHome@Com
