Question: Forced to be free!?
what does Rousseau mean when he suggests that the members of the state should be forced to be free!?!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Rousseau's definition of freedom is obeying the laws that you give yourself!.

When man enters the social contract, he agrees to comply with the general will, which is actualized through the making of laws in society!.

These laws are created by a democratic vote, where the majority rules!.

Those who do not follow these laws are thus "forced to be free" when they are compelled (possibly by physical force, but not necessarily) to obey them!.

This is because the original law that man gives himself is the social contract, and he is being forced to uphold this commitment by being forced to obey the social laws made by a democratic majority vote!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

So that they won't enslave others!.
Domination always comes with its opposite!. Submission!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
