I am 57 years old with dyslexia!. Back when I was young no one had a name for it, except that I was lazy!. I literally memerized what words went with what pictures in the book!. I had no idea of how any one knew the difference between words- for instance!.!.!.!.!.they, the, them, those, that etc!. I could read a word and the next sentence it would look totally different to me and I had no idea how everything was so easy for everyone else!.
In second grade there were pages without pictures!. That is when they realized at school that I didn't know how to read!. Talk about anxiety!. I felt like no one really cared or understood how hard it was!. I was sent to a special teacher and in a fairly short time I was reading, but not reading well!.

I struggled through school!. I was often late becasue when I had a lock I couldn't remember the numbers or which way I turned it and when to pass a number up!. The anxiety built over the years!.

I had a job ten years ago where I had to enter my pass code number!. 8 numbers I think!. And I had to keep my written down and taped to the wall in order to access the computer during a sale transaction!. The other workers knew everyones personal number!. I had to write all of them down!. It is interesting because every one thought I was smart and well educated!. Even to this day part of me feels like a fraud!.

I was determined to be a nurse!. My grades in high school were barely a C!. I was so determined to become a nurse that I had to learn how my brain learned and remembered things!. Numbers were and still have been difficult for me!. What I did to get though college was that I knew when I took notes I needed to read them out loud in a tape recorder, I had to listen over and over again!. I had to write the notes over and over again!. This took more time and energy compared to the other students!.

I was a nurse!. That was back when nurses wore white dresses, white shoes, white nylons, and a nurses Cap!. I was so proud of myself!.

Another thing I am proud of is that I have the ability to write!.
I have published and hope to do so again!. Why I have that talent is beyond me!. I am just thankful that I pulled myself through the frustration of being dyslexic!.

I still have times when numbers and letters perplex me!. I just have to concentrate harder!.

I still often see things sideways or backwards!. Concepts sometimes fly over my head!. I some times hit a brick wall especially when it comes to filling out forms!.

I thought I would end up a nothing and I ended up some thing special!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Now 60, when I never thought I would live past 30,--is a great accomplishment all by itself!. The problem back then was that a "meaningful life," when measured against the selfishness and unnecessary suffering of a brutal world made a meaningful life unimaginable!. But miracles do happen (at least in my case) and after many years of struggling with the question WHY, I discovered how to understand WHY in a convincing way!. I have spent the last part of my life trying to communicate that "understanding" and, although lacking in success, that purpose has kept me alive, made it possible to marry and raise a family, and to reverence the the God that has made all this possible!. God bless!Www@QuestionHome@Com

When I was 27!. I was involved in a Collision, between a Motorcycle and a Sedan!.
I was in control of the Motorcycle, and as result of the collision!. I became airborne and impacted the Roadway Headfirst!.
As a result, I sustained Serious Head Injuries-no other bone was brocken!.
The unbelievable part is, I survived!.

The goal, was to live life as well as I could and I have achieved that goal!. In that, I travel-both within Australia and Internationally, I am a part of Rotary International and have visited numerous international clubs, I am a part of a New South Wales Organisation and have-and will-speak before a variety of groups, over the next 12mths!.
I have learnt, how to sample a Red Wine, what blends I find appealing and the excellence of certain Red Wines, imbibed after a good baked dinner or certain types of Pasta!.
After having, the Trachieotomy in place for some 4mths, below my voice box!.
I can't abide the odour of cigarretes and having given up(after being up arond the 45-50 smokes a Day) I have, regained my sense of Taste, Smell and accute Hearing!.

So I am doing, everything I am called upon to do, not without a lot of help of course but still it is getting done!.

Oh by the way, I am 45yrs old now!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
