The 1,000 you kill is to save for the greater good of 5,000 from lets say a war, and soliders are attacking civilians and 1,000 in an area are going to die anyway so you kill them!. or you kiill 1 million people that are going to revolt and join a cult for shure, and save 500,000 inoccent bistandars, who would of been infected with a dieses generated!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Too many unknowns, you sound like a democrat!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It is ridiculous to posit an absurdity under utilitarian ethics!. Every ethics system in certain situations imposes moral contradictions or moral dilemmas!. Utilitarian ethics is no different!. Maybe someday you will evolve past those inconsistencies to another plane of morality and more difficult moral judgements! OK!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

is this a question of morality!? if not it wouldnt matter which!.

if it is, it still wouldnt matter!.

the real question here is, which is more beneficial to me!. if my friends were in that cult or my family are on the the by standers, then i will try to avoid thatWww@QuestionHome@Com

To kill another entity is fraught with danger, of course you do not know this at the time, If killing must take place of any number, my choice would be to let someone else do it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

it depends on what the war's about and what the cult's about, those who would have died from the disease would have made the human race stronger genetically against that particular disease so it's not all bad!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Kill the 1,000 to save 5,000 because in this case you are saving more than you are killing!. In the later case you would be killing more than you would be saving, therefore doing no good!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Id rather kill 1 million people because that means less people in the world, and we are wayyyy to overpopulatedWww@QuestionHome@Com

I'll take dieses for 100!Www@QuestionHome@Com
