"Blind faith" is a term usually applied to following the tenets, dogma and/or instruction of a religion, philosphy or political system without question regardless of what the same holds or professes ot the belief of the faithful!.

When on is following in such a manner, he or she has stopped asking questions and simply responds as directed by someone other than ones self!.

Such is stopping or greatly retarding the normal thinking process that is usually employed so as to attempt to discern the realtive value of what is being presented as in , "Is this good for me!?", "Is this good for others!?", "could this lead to harming others or myself!?", etc!.

Thinking and resaoning, on the other had, employ the use of ones natural abilities to discern by weighing options, critically analysizing information to see if it is accurate, reliable and valid, etc!.

Therefore, it takes much less intellectual ability to mindless or blindly follow the directions of others and a great deal more to think for ones self!.

The hazards of blind faith are easily seen throughout history where such followers, when eventually brought up on charges of crimes against humanity ( as in the Nazi and Japanese military and political leaders after World War II) all claimed that they had only been following orders! One shudders to consider how many millions of persons throughout the world, on all continents, perished because these person simply "followed orders" in blind faith!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I mean no disrespect but the term "Blind Faith", is about as nebulous as "Common Sense" They are a fairly decent band however!.

In a more rational sense, FAITH takes no major intellect at all, in fact FAITH is usually fostered upon us from a very young age, and possible experiences, but FAITH need not only be a frame of religious reference!.

Actually I find those of us with a high level of intellect, have fewer thoughts of faith, than those of other levels!.

Certainly we all reach a point in any level of intellect where we find we cannot answer some mysteries we encounter!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

it requires neither more or less intellect, but does pretty much preclude logic or rational ability!. To ignore everything and spout what you are told as fact i would say means no matter how smart you may be, you aren't using that intelligence at the time!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
