Short answer: lack of trust!. Perhaps if we understand each in terms of common human needs, then perhaps we could create rights that would satisfy those needs equally!. Self reliance is valued more as distrust increases, but this is not to say there are no other needs that motivate humans to self reliance!. Now it is all about greed, being right, and more greed!.
