I too, find myself in the wrong category many times, and I guess it was my habit!.

I tend to be the odd one out!.
And I guess, the thing to do, is, remember that the common point being we are humans!.
That might help!.

If for no other reason that it asserts our identity against their difference, the more we hold in common the less distinction there is to our unique identity!. We become "einer von denem", just another member of the herd!.

On the other hand we frequently find things we have in common, and develop interesting associations!. Variety is the spice of life!. Nothing is learned by those who share only the same knowledge and interests!. It rounds and expands our character and understanding!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I've never seen it that way or had any idea it was expected of me to have something in common with whomever I'm hanging out with!.

Every action and outing ought to have a purpose, otherwise you may just loiter around and mix with the wrong and dangerous company!. Mix with a wider group of friends with varied interests; then you would find the right friends to spend useful time with you!.
