Position:Home>Philosophy> If you could end the world's sufferings by killing one stranger to you, woulQuestion: If you could end the world's sufferings by killing one stranger to you, would you!? nobody would ever know you killed that person, therefore you would never get in trouble for it!.
i personally wouldn't!. we are who we are because of the suffering!.Www@QuestionHome@Com Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: reminds me of an episode from twilight zone where a person is asked to push a button that would win him a million dollars but would cause the death of a stranger!.Www@QuestionHome@Com Let's put it this way: If happiness is brought about by more suffering, even if just one person should suffer for the greater good of other people, that happiness is not worth having!. Happiness, the Good, should start within the people, it is something that people should sacrifice for it themselves!. It is brought about by making sacrifices, by putting others ahead of yourself, but if you make people sacrifice for your happiness, your blessing, it nothing short of absolute arrogance and egotism!. It only leads to discontent, unhappiness and despotism!. So NO!. And human life is the most treasured thing on this planet and taking that under any pretense is wrong!. And if we want to have happiness, and no more suffering in this life, we have to love other human beings, our brothers and sisters, more than we love ourselves; not by using them to gain happiness and end suffering!.Www@QuestionHome@Com If one is a utilitarian, then killing for everyone's benefit is okay!. However, I do agree that suffering makes us who we are and can make good things seem better by comparison!. Even so, I would probably kill the stranger if the situation were more specific like "kill them and all animal cruetly will end" or "kill them and no one will go hungry"!.Www@QuestionHome@Com It would be an impossible situation, with corpses finding no place for burial, and criminals finding no prisons to go to, except being chained to stakes in tents!. The only plus point in this scenario, maybe in the year 2100 or beyond, is that there will be a job for the killers to do--bury the very persons they kill as the population would be short-handed!. If animals have not committed such global genocide, humans wont!.Www@QuestionHome@Com No!. I wouldn't!. One person should never have to suffer for the good of the masses no matter how much suffering it would end!. All life is precious and we all share the same fate and that fate is death!. Who are we to decide who lives and who dies and for what reason!? No one!. Not man, not god, not weapons, not war!.Www@QuestionHome@Com let me know when that is a real scenario and I would then approach a dieing patient and tell him/her what is what!. I would ask thier thoughts and what they would like to do given what is at stake!. I would do the spiritual things I do!. I think if this was a real situation, well, if I could not find one willing, I would take my own life!. Empathy is a *****, lol!. And to the guy/girl who said we do not know suffering!.!.!.!. I guess it depends on how you define it!. I do not have much, don't want much, but will say suffering happens in many different forms!.Www@QuestionHome@Com Its a silly question (well, not you asking it!.!.!.) in my opinion!.!.!. if all the world has some suffering and some of that suffering includes (and it does) death!.!.!.!. then wouldn't it be just dandy to knock off one person to save ALL the others!.!.!. So one person suffers to save millions!.!.!. fair trade to me!.!.!. sure, I'll pull the trigger on that deal!. And if you were given the option to shoot me to spare the world, I would expect you to shoot me!.!.!.!. We are not (IMHO) who we are because of the suffering - when did YOU last suffer!?!?!? When did I last 'suffer' - NEVER!!!! We, you and I, don't know what suffering is!.!.!.!. and for the millions that do suffer, surely one life is a fair trade to end it all!.!.!. And in religious terms (I am not religious), isn't that what Jesus died for!?!?!? If god approved that, then certainly you and I could!.!.!.!. IMHO - in my humble opinion!.!.!. No disrespect to you or your question!. I am just trying to answer it as I see it!. I did not mean to say you were silly or it is a stupid question!. I suggest it is 'silly' because to ME, it is an obviously easy choice ;) But obviously not so easy for all here who are answering and asking :)Www@QuestionHome@Com Because of my belief in Jesus Christ I can't really buy into this scenario!. If things were different and this whole world system was different than I know it is - Yes!. I would kill someone if the whole world would benefit - however, even though no one would know I murdered, I WOULD KNOW!. I don't know how I would manage to live after that!. I would be haunted by what I had done, even if I tried to make myself rationalize it!. Thankfully, God is still in charge and I will never be given such a hideous choice to make!. I say I would kill, but when it got right to it I'm not sure I could do it!. I'm not a physically aggressive sort!.Www@QuestionHome@Com IMHO = In my humble opinion!. Usually posted by people who's opinion is somewhat less than humble!. On the killing thing - do you work for the FBI by any chance!?Www@QuestionHome@Com You describe the motivation for war!. I couldn't do it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com the death of a as far as i know inocent person with a family who loves him by the hands of another ould be the worst crimeWww@QuestionHome@Com Yes I would!. If I knew these things, then I would be inspired in by a much higher power then myself!.Www@QuestionHome@Com I don't believe in hypothetical absurditiesWww@QuestionHome@Com you question is a very intense one I gather from the answers I read it does remind one of not just twilight zone logic also a few classics along similiar lines -Lottery for one I do not see within it the motivation for war ---illogical 'san diego art' as there is not one sacrifice for all in war that is very much leaving a name all over that an idea, way of being is right or land and the wealth is sought I do not feel this question is 'silly' although I am in awe there is any one person who has never 'suffered' he has not lived one can not appreciate joy without suffering in my opinion at least I am sure that if this question were out here long enough you would have only ones who cared say yes at least till they thought on it the realization the knowing to save everyone with one life taken in secret after the initial leap to save the idea sinking in which is chosen stranger did that one have a chance to say goodbye to tuck anyone in to kiss anyone to say i love you to taste the breeze or watch the clouds do you go swiftly about this or wait just one more day how do you judge that one what happens then the suffering is there for the ones left behind not strangers to your stranger and what of you; if you would say "yes" no trouble!? no one knows!? you know you would not be fine you suffer after a guilt on your head the reason I say --- ones who care would answer 'yes' ----- because really if a person does not care they would not consider helping or ending suffering although the same holds they would have no remorse the idea of one person to end all the woes well there was right that was for the soules if it would end the suffering tonight here now for all I would a stranger one I have yet to meet than me and it is the only life I have the right to offer to live to give I would never take a life in secret or openly to end 'suffering' not for you, sorry!.!.!. not for anyone here!.!.!. not for the ones closest that I cherish above all else!.!.!. I would gladly, however, give mine over!.!. have it taken from me now!.!.!. if the answer were as simple as that but truly would relish a hug, a smile or praise even if you never experienced the frown, the condemnation or the emptiness of someone close turning away any suffering harsh as it sounds and is gives a greater appreciation for that rainbow struggling to be seenWww@QuestionHome@Com |
