Not through logic, that's for sure!. You never really know anything until you experience it!. You don't really know you exist until you have an experience of being truly alive!.

People keep asking that question on here, and it's a symptom of the modern malaise--people are alienated, they're stuck in the rational side of their minds, and they have lost so much of themselves and their sense of aliveness that they aren't really sure they exist!. Just look at a child or an animal--they don't doubt their own existence, because they are in touch with their being, their energy!. And that being in touch is the only way to know you exist!. It's really as simple as it can be but if one is out of touch, it can seem elusive!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The fact that you asked meant that there is someone asking, and therefore obviously, you exist!.

But then how do you know that the universe itself is not just a figment of your imagination!? Well in your statement, you already affirmed the existence of the universe!. When you look at this computer screen, that is you affirming its existence!. When you read my answer, that is you affirming my existence!.

You can always be wrong of course!. What you perceive may be inaccurate!. But the fact is you are perceiving something!. You feel it, you touch it, it affects you, you are able to affect it!. If there is something else that is "real" aside from things that affect your life or has the potential to affect your life, would it really matter!?

You cannot deny the existence of the universe!. The universe itself would scream at you that it exists!. Stand in front of a charging train then doubt the universe!. You'd feel existence in the quaking of your knees!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

We are created by God and for God!. The dignity of the human person rests above all on the fact that we are called to communion with God!. If the "we" you refer to is singular--that is, "how does a person know that he/she exists," then you merely are bringing up the "cogito" of Descartes!. One's own thought affirms one's existence!.

If the "we" you are addressing is plural, then there is no way of knowing!. In short, we arrive at an epistemological crossroads!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
