Question: What is virtue and have we any use for it!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
"“Value” is that which one acts to gain and keep, “virtue” is the action by which one gains and keeps it!."

"Man has a single basic choice: to think or not, and that is the gauge of his virtue!. Moral perfection is an unbreached rationality—not the degree of your intelligence, but the full and relentless use of your mind, not the extent of your knowledge, but the acceptance of reason as an absolute!."

"Virtue is not an end in itself!. Virtue is not its own reward or sacrificial fodder for the reward of evil!. Life is the reward of virtue—and happiness is the goal and the reward of life!."

Galt’s Speech, "Atlas Shrugged"; Ayn Rand

By the first part of this definition, a virtue is any act of the will that gains you something which you value!. Others may say that what you value is immoral; but so long as what you value--and the virtues you use to gain them--do not infringe on others rights, ie!., initiate the use of force, then who cares!?

That is what individuality and free choice are all about!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Without chastising you as your first answerer did, as this is truly a philosophical question that has been asked hundreds of time before every class in college that teaches philosophy!.

so with having said that, lets look at the definition I copied for you!. think about a world were there where no people how held any virtues up for mankind to see, and experience!. The world would be hollow, without depth and empty, full of hateful and resentful humans, as all humans need examples to live by so as to form their values of which they will live by and under!.

Certainly we can debate some of these qualities, but in the debate we might find ourselves being somewhat virtuosic in our logic and reason to a conclusion most unexpected!.
