What do you mean, Why!?

Your question presupposes a creator!. If there is no such creator, it doesn't make much sense (unless you're asking something along the lines of - what caused humans to have such a short lifespan!. Which if you are, I apologise, and my answer would be, the longer one lives, the more likely one is to pass on damaged DNA, as one's DNA mutates more the older one is)!.

We are emotional beings!. We inherited each cell in our bodies from the old, "reptilian" brain of our ancestors!. Their obligations were 1!. to reproduce(biologically speaking) and 2!. to defend their life's!.
We are inherently selfish in this sense!.
Pre-programmed to survive!. We are violent people!.

If we cannot access relatively new (neo) brain (cortex), and assume greater awareness we cannot promote co-existence!. The older brain functions compel us to be fearful, competitive, and controlling!. THIS STRESS!.!.!.I believe, is one reason we live shortened lives!.
