Question: Why do we all search for immortality!?
Why do we search for immortality!? We do this with religion in the thought of gaining ever-lasting life after death!. We do this in medicine by trying to ever prolong our existence past what nature has intended!. We engrave our names and life span into stone after we dies so anyone willing to read will know of us, and we do this with history by trying to get our name and actions remembered and talked about for generations!.

So why do we want to be immortal!? What is it about humanity that pushed us to seek eternal life!? Personally, would you like to live to the end of time!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'm not sure that it's accurate to say we _all_ search for immortality!. It seems whenever someone posts a question here dealing with immortality, there are usually a LOT of answers to the effect of, "I would never want to be immortal!."

For some people, it is a fear of death!. For others, it is a desire to be remembered, so that they feel their lives will have had meaning (e!.g!. with engraved tombstones)!.

For still others, I think it's not so much a desire for actual immortality as it is a desire for an end to suffering!. The concept of heaven is more a comfort than a concrete ideal, because it serves as both a relief against the fear of death, and an imagined paradise where there is no suffering!. I think a lot of people who would abhor real, physical immortality would also see nothing wrong with going to heaven, because I think subconsciously, heaven is more a means of closure than a means of immortality!. People ask of physical immortality, "What would I do for eternity!? I'd eventually become eternally bored!." And yet no one seems to ask the same question about going to heaven!. They just don't give any thought to what they'll be doing in heaven a trillion years from now, quite possibly because they don't expect to be doing anything in heaven, other than being at rest!.

As for myself, yes, I would love to be immortal!. It's not just out of fear of death, though I must say that I lost my dad to cancer last year and if I ever run across the Grim Reaper in a dark alley, I'm gonna beat the snot out of him!. >:-) But no, it's more than that!. I genuinely love live, love the experience of living!. Life isn't always good, and sometimes it's downright horrible, but in total it is definitely good!.

Have you read "Time Enough for Love" by Robert A!. Heinlein!? It's a great novel!. The story is about the first immortal, Lazarus Long, and his striving to find meaning in his greatly-extended life as well as how to deal with living among mortals, including ones you love but know will die eventually!. The story begins with Lazarus actually wanting to commit suicide, but eventually he learns the reasons why life is worth living, even for an immortal!.

On the more real, scientific side of immortality, you might want to check out the 2nd & 3rd books listed below!. "Liberation Biology" is especially a good read; it details all sorts of amazing advances in biotech that are already in the research pipeline which should allow us to live both much better and much longer lives!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Because there is something in us which is immortal!. This survives even after the body's death and again takes birth in a new body!. This in us seeks immortality of the body as well!. But since at present the body is inert and not fit for immortality, this cycle of birth and death keeps repeating!. With each birth there is an evolution of mind and life!. Body is rigid and slow to respond, but the evolution is still there as you can see today,s human body from the caveman!. But the process is so slow that in the span of time we arealive it is invisible!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

We are given immortality whether we want it or not!. We have no choice!.Our souls created by God are immortal!. In death, the separation of the soul from the body, the human body decays and the soul goes to meet God for a particular judgement that refers our life to Christ!. Either entrance into heaven, through a purification, or immediately, or immediate and everlasting damnation!.All the dead will rise on the Last Day to be judged!. Those who have done good will join their souls in heaven with new incorruptible glorified bodies!. Those who have done evil will join their souls in hell!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I don't think we all search for that!. People are too attached and have their attention on getting their desires fulfilled to bother about immortality!. People just say everybody dies, and that they're going to die, too!. They don't say that they are in search for God and eternity so that they want to live forever!. People don't really care for immortality, they just rather die!. Get as much pleasure and satisfaction out of life and then die!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I agree, fear of death could lead fearful people to attain immortality!. I'm not scared of death and I believe my soul will live until the end of time as we know it!. I believe, my soul will animate another body for a lifetime after my death and so on and so forth!.

I suppose we want to be immortal because we do not understand death fully!. Fear of the unknown, perhaps!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well,it depends on the situation of the person!. Maybe because they are afraid of death and they don't know what is going to happen to them!. If they are going to heaven or hell they're not sure!.

Another is because they don't want to die yet!. they feel that there is still more in life ahead of them!. they still want to experience and do lots of things, like in my case!.

Third is because they don't want to leave their loved ones!. they are afraid of what will happen to their family!. They think 'Will they still have money when I'm gone!?" or "will they be alright and remember me!?"

Fourth is to see changes in the world!. they wanna see technology advance and the next president of their country or a super invention!.

I wouldn't like to live very very long because I don't want to be sad being very old and not being able to do things because of my health!.!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Easy!.!.!.!.!.Because that was the original plan for mankind as the bible states!.
Yes I personally would like to live forever!.
Although no one would want to live forever in the current state of this world!.You have to realize we have strayed WAY off track with God's original intentions for us!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

EnJOyWww@QuestionHome@Com

I'm not searching for immortality!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'd like to be immortal, but I'll settle for being immoral!.!.!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I wanted to be immortal when I was young!. But as I grew up, I never want to be immortal anymore!. I personally think it's not wise to be immortal, why anyway!? A lot of time life makes us suffer, the longer we stay on earth, the longer we suffer!. Of course, there are a lot of things for us to feel happy about too, and that's exactly why we need to suffer - in order to feel happy!. I think death is something natural, it happens every day in the nature, no one should try to prolong our existence using science or any other method!. If there isn't death, there isn't life either, I think I wouldn't be able to feel alive if there's no death!. No, I would not like to live til the end of time, because that would be eternity!. However, I think it's a bit different that we want to be talked about after death, it isn't really about immortality, I think having that desire somehow satisfies us in feeling more "fulfilled" in our life, and that our life hasn't been wasted, I think to some degree, the people who don't want to live til the end of time hopes to have a life w/ lots and lots of experiences, ups and downs, of course, we never know if we will ever be talked about after death, but before we die, we seek to have that fulfilled because all our life we just seek to live fully!. It's not a necessity for me, but it'd be cool if I can achieve something big in my life, and will be talked about!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
