no!. Sarada Devi, a great indian saint said: "When you live with trust and an open heart, even if you get exploited, you still live like a king on planet earth"!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If the second person goes against the first person immediately after realizing the first person was lying, then the second person is acting in good faith!.

What I mean to say is that if the second person is acting on the words of the first person, then finds that the first person is lying!. The second person needs to try to "undo" any actions they've done based on these orinated lies!. That means acknowleging them as being lies, showing remorse and asking forgiveness from those that were transmitted the lied information!. Basically the second person is stuck with setting things right as far as how they further propogated the lie!.

So, as far as punishment, the original liar certainly gets punished as far as whatever punishment a liar deserves!. The second person may be punished if they do not take every step to try to reverse all effects they have done by continuing the lie, even though it wasn't their intention of continuing the lie!. In fact, I think the second person will certainly give the biggest punishment to the original liar by lack of trust and/or friendship depending on the severity of the lie!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

A lie is a deliberate untruth, one that believes may, or may not, not that it is deliberate and would I say that makes the difference in terms of punishment!. If I were to agree that the lie in fact demands punishment!.
For instances consider ethical dilemmas where a deliberate untruth is told to protect the life of a child!. Would I be justified in punishing the person who lied to save the life of an innocent human being!.
There are many shades of gray between the spectrum of black and white were it not so I dare say that ethics would be a science and not a branch of philosophy for often is the case when philosophy reveals a reliable standard that it then becomes a science!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If somebody lied to me, and I believed that person, I am innocent because I believed that he/she answered me in good faith--I am a victim, and should not be punished!. HOWEVER, if somebody lied to me, and I heard the answer I wanted to hear, knowing that it was a lie (such as "No, that red dress does not make you look fat," when, in fact, I know I look like a cow in it) then, I deserve what I get--going around in a red dress, looking like crap!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It certainly depends on whether or not a crime was committed !. Naivete is one thing but it's no defense for common sense !.
But on general principal - no , you are not a liar for believing in someone based on good faith !. Therefore no punishment should be required when you operate by good faith !.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No, if somebody lied, he is the liar
If I believed him without sufficient verification, I am a poor believer, a knave believer!.
Only the liar should be punished, provided u have enough evidence to prove he is a liar!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It depends!. In this case, if my friend lied to me and I didn't know about the case, I would prefer to punish him by any means! Coz he lied to me and I've put my trust on the person!. Hence, my friend has betrayed me then, better punish him by not being in touch forth!. That teach him a lesson!Www@QuestionHome@Com

that is so dumb!.
how could you be a liar if you believed someones lie!? you can be accused of being stupid, ignorant, naive, gullible, etc!.!. but you yourself did not have the wherewithall to create the lie, therefore you are not the liar!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Its not like that!. Suppose if i tell u some thing lie and u believe me in good faith, then why u will be called liar!. If i m registered liar and than u trust me without verifying the facts , then i can say that u r guilty too!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

When someone lies, sometimes you don't know!. He still lies!.
It's not because you know that it makes him a liar!. There's no need to seek punishment, compassion is first!. Are we so pure to punish someone else!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

A lie is on purpose; you were ignorant (unknowing) and can now learn to check your facts of what that person says in the future!. Other than that, you ought not be held accountable for something you said which you thought was true!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

We commit mistakes in judging people every now and then in trust!. This should not make us guilty, because wehad put our faith in someone's words!. The liar only should get the punishment!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
