Question: What do you make of this Verse 389 from the Dhammapada!?
One should not strike a holy man, nor should a holy man, when struck, give way to anger!. Shame on him who strikes a holy man, and more shame on him who gives way to anger!.

The story behind it, and the the next verse in the additional comments!.

As always I ask this with Metta/Loving Kindness

I don't know that all calling themselves 'holy' are holy-

Holy is as holy does - the name and status are no guide - I know a man in the rank second down from the pope and he is no holy man!.

I think it should say that no one should beat anybody else!.

I don't think singling out those with status is helpful!.

We all have the potential to be holy and those who abuse others abuse themselves worse by doing this!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well I'd suggest not going around hitting anybody at all!. If someone should attempt to hit you, which they inevitably will, give it plenty running away!. You'll probably outrun them because they're pissed!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
