One definition of "normal" is the average or mean!. So, there are some characterists of human beings that you can take as an average!. For instance, the average height and weight, average number of each organ and appendages (two kidneys, one heart, one spleen, 10 toes, 10 fingers, 2 arms, etc!.), and average IQ!.

There are some things like race which have too many variations to call one race normal!. However, race is determined by the amount of melanin the body produces, which is based party on environment and partly on heredity (which is itself based on environment)!. If everyone lived in sub-Sahara Africa or China for tens of thousands of years, then we'd all look pretty similar in terms of skin and hair color!.

In terms of the social and mental behavior, you can once again define "normal" as being "the average or mean"!. For instance, the average person goes to school for several years, works some kind of job as an adult, engages in relationships with members of the opposite sex, practices some form of organized religion, etc!. That doesn't mean that those who don't do these things are wrong, they just don't follow the statistical norms of human society!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

A rather ambiguous, subjective word to debate over, and not very politically correct either amongst the intellectual elite! Maybe you could use that to your advantage: Normal is a real enough concept for many (probably most) people, even if that concept is different from one person to the next, one culture to the next, one age to the next etc!. Still most people seem to cling to concepts of normality!. The perception makes it real!.
Or you could go with the simple medical use of the word, implying some one deviating x standard units from a statistical norm or falling within certain parameters!.
If you are going to define normal as average -and there is always an average- then I think you could make a solid argument of it!. On a technicality!
I've got a couple of ideas going here for you that I could write essays on but I'm trying to pare them down to bitesize -not very successfully albeit but good luck with your debate!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

What's "normal" to one person may not be "normal" to another!. It depends on how you were raised and such!.

Normal by book standards is that you walk, think, talk, breath, eat and sleep!. But it's the mental state that people argue about for what is "normal" and since that is the case, Who's "Normal" are you looking for!? Or do you mean Typical!?
I am not "normal" I am unique and there is no one else out there just like me, so what the hell is NORMAL anyway!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

well, as for defining normal i dont know how you would do that!.
HOWEVER!.

courts and the legal system use the 'ordinary man test' or the 'normal person test' with some defences to crimes!. research that up and find some more specifics and you have an argument!. i know it used to be used for the defence of provocation but that isn't a defence anymore!.!.but i think there are others!.
if its used in the legal system then it clearly does exist!.

hope that helps a bit!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, the ideal "Norm" would be a well-adjusted person, happy and fulfilled with their lives!.

However, this society is too messed up to produce such a creature, so the literal "Norm" would be more of what people commonly turn out to be, in a particular region!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Normal in my opinion is people who act within a certain set of parameters some people can be at the extremes in these parameters, but those who exceed these paramaters are seen to be abnormal!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
