I wonder if we really appreciate how lucky most of us are for having a house to live in, protected from the cold, the rain, the heat!.

In the town where I dwell, there lives a gentleman, an old Woodfordian, he lost his home because of rising maintenance costs and is found standing in a local doorway!. I fill out lottery forms hoping I would win in order to house him!.

He is loved and passer’s by, in passing, pass to him twenty pounds or so!. He is well spoken and it is indeed a modern day travesty of justice in this land of plenty that he is homeless!.

He smiles, soothsaying it won’t be for long, and he will find a flat soon!. He is well turned out and I suspect many offer him shelter, of only for a night!.

A sign of the time’s!. Government officials lay blame at the feet of these individuals arguing their homelessness if self imposed, but I would counter respond in saying these are proud men, or broken youngsters and require a degree of sensitivity in handling their predicament!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I work in downtown Toronto, and I don't really think about it that much!. Some of them here make the choice to be homeless and abuse the welfare system while some others are there due to circumstance!. Most of them will beg for change, but when you offer to buy them a coffee or a bite to eat (there's a coffee shop every five minutes!.!.!.and that's a walk), they say no!. That's when I have lost my sympathy for that person because I know that s/he will use that money to buy booze and/or drugs!. What do they call that in that show Intervention again!? Helping someone with their addiction!.!.!.!.there's a phrase for that!.

But yeah, I do realize how lucky I am to have a decent job so I can provide for myself!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

They are not homeless they are in the home of our God!. That is Gods nature!. Those people are great than us, They live with out any fear!. We have to live with fear of health, wealth, etc!. They are very lucky to be natural Gods home!. We have to live like that only God is for them only!. God asked us to live life that only in the beginning!. The houses are man made!. Yeah I do, kinda hard not to when I see them everyday when I head out to work!. There are a few that stand out on the highway when you get off I-5, also a quarter mile into Hwy!. 22!. But you know they are always there and you get used to seeing them on a daily bases!. I've given out some money not a lot but some!. It is really sad when you see the cops chasing them out, or every once in a while you see an ambulance; you never hear why it's there on the news or in the paper, unless they were hit by a car or something!. I think that is really sad!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's not a subject for Philosophy page! Read what "2eighty8" has answered & realize what "mad" answered!. Both of them are quite true to the fact!. Your question (if at all it were a question!) will create 'sensation' to the Westerners ( and you yourself feel it from the answers above) but to us, the people from Bangladesh, India, Pakistan----it's so shocking to say that, we're habituated to see homeless guys everywhere, every time, all the seasons! Funny thing is this, besides the Social Workers (my foot!) there are media (especially the media from Western World) use to capture those homeless via their camera, video-cam, movie camera----make so 'sentimental' documentaries & earn $ after $! I wish I could upload few scenes of the homeless guys of my town, Dhaka, taken by my camera-phone! Then you, the Westerners, would feel the realities & would become afraid of the on coming days' dangers! Yet, I do support "mad"s answer, finding no other alternatives! Perhaps, there will be homeless guys throughout the world! God only knows how they would survive this way so long!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yep!. Even long-term unemployed & with a roof over your head gets you down!. The most boring & depressing time of my life!.

I have a decent job now & I never want to go back to that lifestyle!. Screw whatever philosophies you have on money & happiness!. Having money gives you a hell of a lot more options!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I do!. I donate as much as I can to our local homeless shelter!. They have changed 1000's of lives and continue to do so!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
