Depends on what criteria you want to distinguish them by!.

I′d suggest 3 different TYPES of "moralities", corresponding to 3 types of basic types of social relations Karl Polanyi liked to distinguish:

Reciprocity -
among relatives and friends!. Probably the historically oldest type of morality!. This means solidarity and an obligation for mutual support!. If you have any brothers or sisters, you probably follow this type of morality with them!. It′s what tribal societies are based upon economically!.

Power -
among superiors and subordinates, such as between father and children, dictator or any type of government and the population, boss and employee, teacher and student!. It involves that the superior is exercising power over his subordinates, but also protects them and cares for them in some ways!.

Contract -
among free citizens / owners of property!. This last type actually isn′t "morality" - it′s ethics or civil law, based upon freedom (of contract) and equality (of rights)!. Ideally, it involves an absence of the two forms of morality above!. It is temporary reciprocity based on contract - after fulfilling the contract, the parties are again free and without any formal mutual obligations!. This is the type of "morality" (ethics or law actually) you follow when you go shopping to your supermarket or when you sell your product or service to customers!.

Within these three basic types, you could distinguish sub-types, but I think these three represent useful basic distinctions!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
