One psychologist studied "human needs" under the humanistic perspective!. Under influence of phenomenological trend and existentialism at the time, Maslow regarded humans to be too complex to be deterministic in terms of what their ultimate goal is!. He then invented "Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs", which is shaped like a pyramid, divided into horizontal sections of levels from primary human needs (at the bottom of the pyramid) to the eventual human needs (at the top of the pyramid)!. The primary human needs are "needs for basic human functions" (i!.e!. search for food, water, etc)!. Then comes safety, and so forth!. The top of Maslow's pyramid is called the level of "self-actualisation" which reflects the individual's attainment of innovative creativity through motivation!. People who have reached "self-actualisation" include people like Jesus, Buddha, Steven Spielburg and possibly you!. However, this high-level can only be achieved once you met all the "needs" of the lower levels of the pyramid!. Maslow's theory has proved itself applicable for many instances, for example business!. So conclusively, I believe that a man's ultimate goal is nothing specific, but meeting all the basic needs and being satisfied with your current position!.
