Question: Is technology enhancing or hindering intelligence!?
Do you think future generations will lack basic skills and intelligence!? Things like correct use of the English language, grammar etc seem to have gone out the window and people just use text abbreviations and sloppy punctuation!. Will things like "Sat-Nav" mean no one will be able to map read!? Will we develop into a nation of illiterate technology dependent individuals!? Will kids still have an imagination and be able to amuse themselves!? Or will they "need" external stimulation all the time; ipods, music, mobile phones, X-box, game boy etc!. Is technology enhancing or hindering intelligence!? Will there be any "great thinkers" in the future!? Or have we had the best there is and now "great thinkers" are on the decline!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

I believe there will always be great thinkers, because the greatest of thinkers have always pondered questions which are intrinsically unanswerable and therefore they will never lose their appeal!. I do believe that technological advancement will result in the loss of many skills which are valued today!. This has already happened, think of the blacksmith, once a valued position in society, now all but gone!. This may not be a bad thing!. New skills will replace the old and become valued!. Computer literacy is a good example of a relatively new skill which is valued in our society!. Regarding the decline of grammar, I think that as long as people are required to take exams in schools and colleges which punish poor grammar and spelling, it will remain important!. There are people today who spel lik dis, but there have always been people who can't spell or think properly and I guess that will always be the caseWww@QuestionHome@Com

Technological advance is an intrinsic aspect of intelligence!. It is a series of steps that lead to the solution of the ultimate question: How to prevent or survive the collapse of the universe(if it does collapse)!. If intelligence(per se, not necessarily human) is destroyed them it would be back to square one!. Theists say that only God can understand the universe, and non theists that science is the best tool!. Both aspire to the same goal, and diversity is a great stimulus for evolution!.
The flaw in the growth of technology/intelligence, , is that it ( and religion )are used to control people in ways that result in a severe depreciation of the life experience!.
Mankind is, and must learn a great deal more as we are in our adolescence!.
We must hail the principles of the United Nations, and look to its ongoing success as it is the key to our future,Www@QuestionHome@Com

I have been listening such questions right from my childhood !. My elders were telling the same thing which is now being asked But its an ongoing process!. Everyone finds its way and make efforts to be happy!. The need for this era is different than what it used to be in the earlier days!. But in all the time the generation gap was found and complaints have been lodged by Elder vs younger !. I witnessed an incidence of few young kids were talking on some issue of new gadgets -

one girl said - "Hai , this is so simple " Second said yes very easy - third said - Hai Guys - this is so silly -'EVEN DADY KNOWS IT '

so , this is the trend - this generation (age range 10 to 15 ) considers themselves more intelligent and they at times react and perform with high degree of IQs !. So nothing to think it over - as it goes on!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Technology is the next level of life enhancement, as so far people's ideas have been sidelined when they stop working, (retire), but now people can broadcast their ideas to a wider range of people and make it easier to carry on from where others have left off!. Technology is a huge enhancement from the chalk and blackboard that schools used to have, enabling things to move faster and be more accurate!. Many films that are about technology (Die Hard 4) have the line "Take this area back to the stone age)!."Www@QuestionHome@Com

Machine are great tools to achieve things never been done before in term of time and accuracy!.But what is the same is the human behind this machine are still thinking only they have different tools being use!. Don't feel guilty if no one is using slide rule and or logarithm books!. This are huge benefits but it is not all!. One of the many benefits is that you have more time to do some other things like laundry!.
Have more quality time with your children or more time to sleep!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

you need to think about what intelligence is to begin with!. i think that intelligence is the ability of deep thought- asking what if!? and finding out "why!?"!. these days, our globalised community survives with it's own life skills!. when humans were un-technological, life skills were the ability to light fires, hunt and fight!. nothing has changed if you think about it!. switches turn on lights, shopping gets food and bombs fight for us!. what is the diference between our life skills and those of old!? life is not easier, it is different!. imagination is not lost, it is redirected!. before the internet, a child would imagine a friend!. they would have a name, personality even a voice of their own- all conciously projected triats from the mind of the child!. after the internet was created, children created blogs, profiles on bebo and facebook, where they conciously project their triats with connotative colour, text and images!.its the same thing, but in different times, using what is available to make us appear better and smarter in what our environment happens to be at the time!.

at the moment, the world just happens to be changing environments!. it has happened before- and will again!. what you see as "sloppy punctuation" is the evolution of the english language!. technically, there is nothing bad about it- its shorter, gets to the point quicker and incorperates a wider variety of global languages!.!.!.
i'm sorry- this is really long!. i'll stop writing now, though i have not finished :) hope it helps!Www@QuestionHome@Com

One day a man might stand in front of you and you might see its brilliance outshine yours!. But that man will not be all too alien to you and neither will it be completely familiar, for it would be your own intelligence personified at a very high level!. You might call it a robot, or an android but that certainly would be specimen of all that human beings have been able to extract from the mind!. The all-important question that if that man made man be subservient to us, the organic life form, just as you or me, is beyond my ability of comprehension!.

This is clear that all we have to peer into our future, into our evolutionary potential, is the instrument of science, the best discipline of the rational mind, and the best expression for human intelligence so far, which is already showing the signs of having a mind of its own!. This is the fact that we made intelligent structures in the past and those structures made it possible for us to be in our present state, but the structures we will be able to develop in the future would be the structures to structure us in return far into the future, beyond our imagination out into what at present is realm of uncertainty!.

This all might sound to you like a voice of a conspiracy theorist, but I sometimes do feel that intelligence is seeping out of human mind in form of various inventions and contrivances of science and technology we brought into existence!. It is as if intelligence is not quite satisfied being enclosed within the limitative organic brain and body of ours, that it requires to be freed from the physical restraints we have, or from the limitations that define us as human beings today!.

If you look around you could see all things from pedestal fan to a aeroplane, from a computer to a satellite are in fact instances of externalising our intelligence, instances of an outflow of our brilliance that cannot be fully realised and benefited from long as it is encased, or folded up like a zip file, within our mono-sequential and leaner processing mind!. Are we really experiencing a massive brain drain, and will one day we be left with an empty headed!? I really would not know, and neither would I like to speculate, but thought is there in the mind to the extent that I often imagine may be sometimes in the past we were possessed by intelligence rocketing past our planet, and since that time it is enabling us to evolve so that it may find its own expression, development, identity, a home and ultimate liberation!.
Only God knows what is the full truth!Www@QuestionHome@Com
