What happens after death??

Question: What happens after death!?!?

is it like before you were born!? you are nothing and will never be anyhthing ever again!? or is it true about that spirit thing going somewhere els to live for all enternaty !? this is my second question on this and I know none of you can truly know until it happens to you but whats weird isyou know how some one you love dies you see them in your dream or in a (ghost) figure in the real world or some times you dont its weird isent it !?!? so what do you think will happen when you dieWww@QuestionHome@Com

This question comes down to the philosophy of the mind and the dualist/materialist question!. The dualist position is basically that the mental phenomena (thought etc) are not physical, i!.e!. they are distinct from the brain!. If this is the case then the mind can survive the physical death and can therefore live on after death!. The materialist position is that the the thought is a function of the brain!. The materialist thefore believes that when physical death occurs, the mind no longer exists as it is a function of the brain so it does not live on!. The materialist position is backed up by scientific evidence!. For example, when brain damage occurs the function of the mind is disrupted!. If the mind was distinct form the brain then it would not be affected by the damaging of the brain!. One needs only to look at the case of Phineas Gage to see this!. Dualism has no credible scientific backing as it is a demonstrably false set of beliefs!. So to answer your question, what happens after death is this!. The brain shuts down and all its functions, thought, sight, hearing etc cease!. Compare it to a computer!.
