Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Are you American!?Www@QuestionHome@Com if you are referring to the united states, i would say we have average 'philosophers'!. how to tabulate philosophers is easy! you just look at the national unemployment rate!. the united states is #133 at 4!.8% where greece (the motherland of philosophy) is #86 at 9!.2% i did not include third world countries as their main concern is basic survival!. 'philosophers' are typically unemployable as their self perceived, self proclaimed and self declared higher intelligence cripples their life and prevents them from ever working any form of skilled employment!. the two philosophers that i know: one is on welfare and the other works at unskilled jobs long enough to collect unemployment!. so, going by these numbers: 50% of philosophers are employed at best and the type of employment usually requires the words 'would you like fries with that', cleaning vomit out of plugged toilets and delivering my $200 bottles of wine in little brown shorts!.Www@QuestionHome@Com To whom does the pronoun "us" apply!? Who is the intended referent of "us" in your question!? If you are talking about America, I would say that other countries boast some first-rate philosophers!. Some good philosophers have come from Germany, France, and Russia!. The greatness of Heidegger, Foucault, and Derrida is debatable; but I would maintain that Husserl (German-Czech), Merleau-Ponty (French) and Kant (German) accomplished something worthwhile!.Www@QuestionHome@Com It depends if you are more into analytic philosophy (American, British) or continental philosophy (European)!. But Germany boasts the most well known philosophers (modern)!. also France and England have their share!. To me American philosophers are dry and boring!. But I am more into continental and asian philosophy!. Specifically Phenomenology Hermeneutics, Taoism!. But America has their share of Philosophers that are into everything!.
