Question: If killing a person in self defense is acceptable, wouldn't the victim robbing the robber be acceptable too!?

Actually, yes!. But the circumstances have to be just right!.

Killing is self defense isn't always acceptable!. It's not like you can shoot some stranger walking down the street and say, "I thought he was going to kill me!"!. The only time it's a valid defense is if it is the only possible way to save your life!.

So let's take that same situation and apply it to a robbery!. Is it possible that they only way to save yourself from a robbery is to steal from the robber!? Sure!. If someone tries to hold you at gun-point and you take his gun away, you have technically stolen it from him!. If someone keeps trying to break into your house and you take his lockpicks away, then you've stolen those too!.

For it to work, you have to demonstrate a desire to obey the actual law, though!. So that means you don't KEEP these things!. You bring them to the police!. You probably won't be charged with a crime, and if you are you will probably get off if you really didn't have much other choice!. Like self-defense for murder, don't expect it to come up very much, though!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Not silly - good question!. But there is a fundamental difference!. We can kill someone in self-defense to STOP a crime!. That's the only reason!. We couldn't for example, get raped, then hunt the guy down in a year and kill him "back"!. So robbing a would-be robber would not stop a crime, it would instead be a second crime, this time done by us!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
