Any molecule with 17 carbon atoms arranged in a 4 ring structure!. That is the actual definition of a steroid in chemistry!. Some steroids are hormonal and some are not!. Some hormones are steroidal and some are not!. Take the natural substance DHEA (see:http://www!.primev!.com/DHEA!.htm ) for instance!. It is the parent molecule of all of the steroidal sex hormones (both male and female)!. To me it is not necessarily a good thing or a bad thing!. Whether or not the effect is good or bad depends on whether it is used appropriately!. Take the artificial anabolic steroids which many athletes abuse!. They do not have the health challenges which justifiably warrant the usage of those drugs which were designed for people with specific health challenges, not healthy people!. They are prescribed to people for whom the possible side effects of the drug are far out weighed by the benefits!. With healthy athletes I'd say the risks outweigh the benefits!. Becoming very wealthy and ending up having a variety of health problems later in life is not worth it!. Vain foolish souls will do vain foolish things, however!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
