Peter Singer and Noam Chomsky are probably the most well-known ones alive today who are unambiguously "left"!.

I really like Michael Sandel!. He is definitely on the left, but his communitarianism doesn't really mesh with liberalism, the dominant strand of leftist thought in America!.

John Rawls is the most important liberal philosopher of the 20th century (and maybe the most important political philosopher of the 20th century)!.

Going a little further back, J!.S!. Mill is pretty good!.

Getting out of the Anglo-American tradition, Sartre, Foucault, and Marx are worth looking in to!. And Herbert Marcuse and Theodor Adorno have powerful criticisms of modern capitalist society!.

The thought of most philosophers, would, by modern standards, probably be considered leftist!. Critically examining the status quo and questioning shared assumptions, key parts of philosophy, do not mix well with conservatism's emphasis on authority, tradition, and faith!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Left wing would be according to where you live!. In Communist countries, a left winger might be a capitalist philosopher!.

Anyway, I suppose you mean this country!. So, I'd go with Karl Marx or Engels, his buddy!. Trotsky might be a philosopher!. Mao Tse Tung was left wing!. But these are all just communists!.
