Nah, his work speaks for itself!. What he proved is more important than his actual authority!. I'm sure he realized that his real work would live on after him despite being forced to denounce it!. I don't begrudge Gallileos desire to live (and not be tortured to death), I probably would have made the same choice!.

Not that Socrates wasn't the man for standing up for his beliefs, of course, but being a philosopher he was the proof of his ideas, his ideas weren't proven by outside evidence!. So for Socrates for step away from his responsibility would have been different than Gallileo stepping away from undeniable evidence that was already out there!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes, totally!. He couldn't understand it though and still kept pestering me for a date!. What a loser!Www@QuestionHome@Com

no ,, he was the man!.!.!.he went above and proved he was smarter than those idiots!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Naw!. He was an amazing person and didn't have the energy left to fight!. Be thankful for what he did do I guess!.!.!. which was a lot!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

He didn't!? Tell me, what happened to Galileo Galilei!?

According to Wikipedia, http://en!.wikipedia!.org/wiki/Galileo_Gal!.!.!.

Galileo was allowed to return to his villa at Arcetri near Florence, where he spent the remainder of his life under house arrest, and where he later became blind!.

So, he stood up for his beliefs; he was not forced to drink hemlock as Socrates did, but he was imprisoned for life!. Sounds serious to me!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Galileo technically didn't renounce his finds!.

After he gave his little speech to the Church about how the Earth doesn't move, legend says that he muttered "And yet it moves"Www@QuestionHome@Com

Which of your beliefs are you not standing up for!? Why are you not putting your life on the line for your beliefs!? Should I lose respect for you!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

No!. Galileo did what he thought was right for him at the time!.

Supposedly, so did Socrates!. Apparently leaving his family fatherless wasn't an issue for Socrates!.

What do you think is more important, protecting beliefs or people you love!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

No because the end result would have been the same, except Galileo would have lived a shorter life!. Plus Galileo pursued other aspects of science after his Sun/Earth discovery!. I did lose respect for the Catholic Church because it wasn't the first time that they suppressed the truth and probably won't be the last!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
