Question: Suppose there is a safety-critical computerised system labelled Cndhgdh!. Wouldn't the Cndhgdh system have!.!.!.!.!.
reused "intellectual property" from legacy systems !?

Wouldn't the "intellectual property" in the legacy systems have likely been doctored with the passing of time !?

So the "intellectual property", having, as we say, been doctored, wouldn't necessarily be "fit for purpose" for re-use in the Cndhgdh system!.

Put bluntly, little bodgie changes would have seeped into the legacy system after they were certified / accredited / deemed fit for purpose!.

People always intend to retrospectively validate any such changes!.

Whether this retrospective validating ever happens depends a lot on the calibre of the people involved!.

There would need to be a chain of custody, with artefacts being handed from one person of high calibre, integrity, to another person of high calibre, integrity!.

That, or some way of building a reliable system, even allowing that there may be some rogue staff!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
