Question:"But if we ignore what we're doing, we do so at our own peril."

Intuitive responses prefered. I heard this phrase under rather strange circumstances. I'm wondering what others would make of it.

Conscious awareness as opposed to autopilot reaction.

Two things come to mind:

Free will and Responsibility.

Well it makes me think of someone who is slowly walking towards the edge of a cliff, they ignore the fact that what they're doing is dangerous, risking their life.

I think it means that you could be doing something dangerous without even knowing you're doing it. So if you ignore what you're doing, you could be risking something.

it is self-explanatory

By failing to recognize the consequences of our actions, we risk bringing about the consequences (&/or unintended consequences) which our actions sought to keep from happening?

We must be ready to change course at any time. Our actions could take a self-destructive turn, because either they or our surroundings have changed. If we ignore what we're doing, we won't see this and will keep moving toward our own harm.

We can stay on a self-destructive course because we're unaware of our environment, or unaware of what we're doing.
