Last time I check, we all die. This would include the philosophers.

That is assuming that something of humanity will be, effectively, immortal. That is hardly guaranteed, when we are quite cabable of destroying the planet.

My favorite take on that is "Khubla Khan", by Samuel Taylor Coleridge.

Until proven wrong in their assumptions they are..

The memories of them are but they obviously were not or at least they did not know how to achieve physical immortality but is being a memory inside the mind of another human being physically immortal?you could say it is but memories are just memories. They do not have a will of their own.

In Western terms, no. In the East, well...

That Dalai Lama we see all the time is supposedly the reincarnation of the bodhisattva, who has renounced his ego and is one with the universe, but will remain reincarnated untill all of us have achieved nirvana. In order of holy men, he's in third place, since he has simply renounced his ego and isn't constantly in tune with the universe for all time and space since that's just an illusion.

So, are great philosophers immortal? Yes, because we all are, in this constant cycle of rebirth until we give up the illusion that it is otherwise.

Earl on "My Name is Earl," is trying to reach that state. I'm hoping he succeeds.
