Position:Home>Philosophy> According to the philosophy of Chuang Chou, what is the self?

Question:Chuang Chou, or Chuang Tzu said, "Therefore I say, the Perfect Man has no self; the Holy Man has no merit; the Sage has no fame."

Self in his perspective, "self" was likely what we would call ego.... or the sum total of ways in which you think about who and what you are.

Jesus said something similar: ‘Unless you are born again, you shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven’ [John 3:3]" "Born again" is obviously a metaphor for emptying the mind of all fears, desires, "sin", etc.

And the Zen saying, "Full is empty, empty is full" refers to this same idea of clearing the mind of all concepts to find inner peace.
