Position:Home>Philosophy> How can function exist without form?

Question:In the realm of universals, and in this way only. In all other ways, it must have a reference to it.

Function exists on the conceptual level without requiring a referenced form.

What this means is that I can say the word "function" and you recognize that word's underlying basic meaning without having to assign it to anything in particular. This is proven by the fact that there is an entry for the word "function" in the dictionary.
If function could only exist in some relation to form, there could not be a stand alone definition for the word "function" in the dictionary. This is true even if the definition calls for a reference to some other thing.

The universal meaning of the word "function" exists a priori to its limited meaning attached to any specifically referenced "form."

any feelings! They can exist even without a reason!!!

It doesn't.

Even abstractions manage to find a way to show themselves. Otherwise we wouldn't know that they exist!

"Form follows function."
This means, for example, the "function" of a building is to contain something. Its form is directly relational to what it contains: people; aircraft; livestock; etc.

But we all know a function can exist in this way, without the form yet existing. In this way, it is Aristotle's "potentiality."

"Its potentiality is, as it were, an attribute of thing as actual. [ ]It is the fulfilment of what is potential when it is already fully real and operates not as itself but as movable, that is motion. What I mean by 'as' is this: Bronze is potentially a statue. But it is not the fulfilment of bronze as bronze which is motion. For 'to be bronze' and 'to be a certain potentiality' are not the same" (Physics 3.1; 201a).

dont know but the government throws this theory out the window

How indeed? you tell me because i am really bewildered.

How can one hold and maintain his overwhelming feelings of love towards his beloved when one is just a wind, a whisper hiding behind the coldness of the stream.

It's ludicruous, superficial. not for me, i live in my real world where everything is materialized.
