Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: BECAUSE "WE" DO NOT UNDERSTAND THEM AND JUST HOW THEY WORK-
SO THE NORM OF SOCIETY PUTS A BAD LABEL ON THEM.

cause they think out of the box

probably because there is a fine line between genius and insanity

Because highly intelligent people sometimes think highly of themselves, and sometimes.. they disregard morals.
So some people call them mad.

cause they usually are..they always come across a bit odd

Most brillant people continue to search for answers and slowly it drives them insane.

because they normaly are... shure some of them are just thinking outside of the box but many of them are realy crazy.

Like jojo said they think differently to everyone else, which is also how we define insanity.

perhaps because the most brilliant people do not think as common folk do. Their ideas and way of thinking is so far advanced or "outside the box" that they sometimes seem mad............ besides there is a very fine line between insanity and true genius.

highly intellegent minds tend to think beyond a concrete level seeing and knowing thinks you cant touch and cant see. they are sometimesc considered mad because they werent understood and were envyed for there great intellegence. but they always seemed to keep to themselves never allowing anyone in and that was seen at crazy or mad by others.

They are ahead of their time and therefore misunderstood. Usually they see the futility of modern convention and disregard it, which average people can only regard as insanity.

not all that are brilliant are mad and certainly not all that are deemed mad are brilliant.....fear of their superiority, fear of their rightness, fear of the chaos that is madness.....fear of our own reflections in the eyes of the mad, fear of our insignificance in the eyes of the brilliant.....

Most people are not brilliant and have a different frame of reference tested against others who are like themselves. If they are sane and sensible so they feel, that unusual fellow over there must be mad.

Because I am.

I have two answers for this.
First, imagine brilliant people had glasses, which made them see things other people couldn't. Do you think the rest of the people would say, "Oh yeah, we believe what you see." Or do you think they are going to say, "WTF THIS GUY IS NUTS!"
Second, imagine that they did believe them. "Oh ok, those glasses do work!" Then their new reaction is jealousy and what does it turn into?"Insanity." Since they don't have it, they will shun it.

because thinking leads to crazy ideas, and it makes us uncomfortable.
