Position:Home>Philosophy> Does money buy happiness?

Question:People always say that you can't buy happiness but really... you can. What if money just makes you happy? And if you were rich you could just do whatever you wanted all day long, in which case money does buy happiness. My husband thinks the only think that matters is love but I think he's impractical. What do you think?

Money can not buy happiness, but it can afford you the things that bring you happiness. For example, if you really like to travel and traveling brings you happiness, than having money will allow you to travel and thus you will be happy.

Happiness comes from the heart =]

It might not buy happiness, but it can buy beer. mmmmmm

In all seriousness, its not money that brings happiness. It can make things considerably easier but happiness is a state of mind.

Not really happiness per se, but money does buy a lot of happy moments.

Yes, your husband is not being practical. I can't help thinking that he does not mean what he says, but rather uses that cliche to make sure the fish is still attached to the hook. Here, I forbid myself to go into more details for the sake of domestic peace.

happieness comes from the heart happiness is of love

Money does not and cannot buy happiness. However, misery is more tolerable with, than without money.

What do I think? I think you have a very wise husband. Cherish him. Of course money does not buy happiness...but it does give you one less thing to worry about, allowing you to stress over all of the other issues that life brings. And it sure can't buy you love. You know the feeling of your heart fluttering when you are with that special person in your life? Well, I can't imagine that same feeling being brought on by holding a million dollars. All that would do would be to make me think of what I could buy...house, vacation, jewelry, etc. All of those things are nice...but fleeting. Hold your own baby in your arms...or your grandchild...and then you will realize what is really important...and what true happiness is. And guess what??? That feeling won't even cost you a dime...and it lasts a lifetime.
Good Question. And now I'm going to call my granddaughter and get another dose of happiness. :-)

money can't buy happiness but it can buy things that could make us happy.
how many people who are rich, and can buy whatever they want without working, but have noone love them genuinely?
but then again, it's always more comfortable to cry in a spa or a BMW convertible...

Money buys happiness as much as happiness buys money..
