Position:Home>Philosophy> I am losing interest in school. I want to drop out but I know that it's not

Question:I am losing interest in school. I want to drop out but I know that it's not the right thing to do...?
I started school with a very ambitious attitude but over the past couple of years I started to lose interest and had severe depression to go along with it. Right now my gpa is a 3.05 and I am doing mediocre work compare to what i know can I can do. i.e. I am taking four classes this semester and the likely grades that i'll get for them is an A, B+, B and A-. I know those grades are not bad but they won't bring my grade up. My point is that right now I don't see the point in school. I am not interested in any major that the school has to offer. I made it so I can graduate early in December but I don't know if I can do it. I feel like a failure because I didn't do as good as I wanted to. As good as I know I could. What want to know is: Does it matter what GPA you get, as long as you have a degree? Do employers look at the gpa? Is having a 3.0 enough to get by in the working world?

I know that I am capable of achieving a lot but I just feel stuck at school and I hate this feeling. I hate the fact that I can't learn WHAT I want to learn and not what was planned out by my major... I don't know...

Stay in school, do the best you can. The GPA is sufficient. What you are studying now ( undergraduate I assume ) is just background, routine stuff that they think you need. Take it for what it is and see if there might be some interesting stuff there.
Later, you might develop a particular interest and decide to go to Grad. School. THERE you'll find the interesting stuff.

I wouldn't drop out of school. That ruins your future. If you're depressed then you have to find out why and to do that, go to a councilor. Don't drop out. Life can be rough but we all have to go through it.

Take a year off and go to work.

There is nothing better than working a crappy job for so little money that makes your realize you should have gone to school so you can get a better PAYING though still crappy job.

When I was in school, I felt kind of "stuck in a rut" and felt like I would never be done! You've come so far, and a 3.0 gpa is very good! Employers don't really look at the gpa - well mine never did. I think my gpa was like a 3.0 also - employers just want to see that you went to college and got a degree in something. Our competition in the working world is getting more and more difficult because many people have a college degree. It's almost like you really need something in order to pursue a career. There are those out there that can manage without a college degree, but from my experiences, that degree can be pretty essential.

Don't give up faith. You're doing really well! Those grades are awesome - don't put too much pressure on yourself. I used to do that a lot also, but remember the really important things in your life. What really matters, like friends, family, those everyday experiences and relationships that make you happy. Take one day at a time and keep working towards your degree. There are so many people I know who have gone into something besides there major - I have a friend who went into PR and Marketing, her major was biology! There are many choices out there for you!

Also, I would highly highly suggest you look into internships. It's amazing how much those matter to your career and networking! Plus, you'll get to see what you might like to do. :)

Hope that helped a bit!

Finish the semester. It's paid for. When the semester is done, spend the summer finding a job. If you have a good one, don't go back.

As far as the GPA goes, few employers look at that. The degree is important to get your foot in the door, but a 3.0 GPA is decent. Work experience in the field you have the degree in will count far more.

Your GPA does matter. There are a lot of employers who will ask for your GPA directly as you apply along with your colleges.

Do yourself a favor, figure out what is bothering you. Stay in school and get yourself refocused at least for the time being - it's only a few months of your life and that's just a drop in the bucket but it makes a real difference. Forgive yourself for not doing as well as you thought you should and decide to do better in the future. And don't let yourself catch you whining. No one in the business world cares and talking about it will only make you look weak. No one wants to hire weak!

Dont do it,
you'd regret it,
y dont you get a part time job for a while?

Don't drop out!!!
Go into research on a subject you're interested in, like global warming! Global warming is a big issue, I'd be glad if more people would do something about it. (sorry why on earth am i asking you to find out about global warming? i dont even know you! god im losin it)
